"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for wholeness and not evil, to give you a future and a hope." -Jeremiah 29:11
Amidst all the tragedy of this past year, we have felt cared for, supported, held, seen.
It's miraculous that a former Marine was on the worksite when Leah was crushed. He immediately tied a tourniquet around Leah's leg - the reason why she was able to survive while rescue teams extricated her from underneath a massive piece of machinery. It's miraculous that there are doctors who have trained for decades to perform intricate surgeries when life hangs by a thread. It's miraculous that Leah's level of injury left her paralyzed from the armpits down but still able to use her hands with perfect function. ("Can I still draw?" was the first question she asked when she came-to in the ICU.)
We live in a world where beauty and tragedy exist side-by-side. We don't know why miracles happen for some and not for others. So much mystery remains. We do know that there is more going on here than meets the eye, that we belong to a God who creates beauty from ashes, and that future and hope is woven into the fabric.
