Have you ever felt lost after a big change?

When I graduated college, I felt like I was floating.

For 16 years I had been given a path to follow, told what assignments I needed to do…

The sudden freedom of having my whole life ahead of me felt overwhelming. I had studied art…now what to do with a degree in Oil Painting??

Transitions are rough. I remember sitting in the car driving home from college, crying for many hours, unsure of what to do next, how I was going to make money, or who I could be friends with.

What I needed was to find my flow.

And eventually I did, thankfully – but I will always say being in my twenties was definitely a stressful decade of uncertainty, and I’m very glad to have made it through.

I was thinking of this recently because I was talking to my cousin who just graduated from Architecture school. She feels very similarly.

This card, May you Find your flow, is meant to help people through such transitions. It is also meant to inspire artists and writers – being in a flow state is such a lovely place to be!

Who can you write to who is going through a transition? Whether that’s going into college, becoming a parent, or moving to a new city, does someone come to mind?

Write to them in this card and let them know you are thinking of them in their uncertainty. A small but weighty card of encouragement will make them feel seen.

And therapist Lynn McCracken writes:

“I use the acronym “SHINE” when teaching people how to compassionately communicate with loved ones.

People need to be:

seen

heard

inspired

nurtured and

encouraged

to help us to feel connected and appreciated.

Sending a card just to let someone know they matter can really brighten their day!”

Who can you help feel seen today? If you need an extra boost, set a timer for ten minutes. Pull out your “Find your flow” card and write to someone who might need that extra encouragement.

May your words flow easily today!

P.S. If you have someone special going through a big transition and would like to support them through this change month after month, we created the Hugs From Home Pack for you!

P.P.S. What was a difficult transition for you? What helped you feel better? I’d love for you to leave a comment about it — it might get others to think of people in their lives going through similar transitions.

Transitions are tough as you said. As we grow the transitions never stop. In May I had a cancer diagnosis, had surgery and am now cancer free but the healing is still ongoing and my face is disfigured now. At the same time I resigned from my job, work that I love and have been doing for quite some time and am preparing for my daughters wedding. These transitions have shaken me badly but in my life everyone thinks I’m “fine”. Reminds me of the statement in the film “Italian Job” where FINE stands for Freaked out, Insecure, Neroutic and Emotional. Yup, Im FINE. Your cards are so precious. I write to people frequently and the more support I need the more I write, it really helps.

Good morning you beautiful women – just a note, when you click on the “hugs from home” link – it requires a passcode. (insert smiley face)
