Leah has frequently confessed the trouble she has in getting cards written and out the door. It truly is ironic to run a card company and struggle with getting cards in the mail.
Ever since I (Grace/Snail) had kids, this has become my affliction as well. 😅
Have you ever heard that line about the cobbler's children who walk around with no shoes? Leah and I sometimes joke that this is us when it comes to greeting cards.
I know we aren't alone when it comes to having good intentions with notes, but trouble following through. This week, I'm reminding myself that it truly does take just 10 minutes to write a thoughtful card.
I’m also reminding myself that just because I can’t write every card on my list right now doesn’t mean that I can’t start with one.
Thank you notes have a particular way of sometimes sticking around for ages on my To Do list. It’s one of the reasons that Leah came up with this brilliant thank you postcard idea. (Trust me, it has helped during this full season of life!)
Currently, there is a thank you note that I have been meaning to write for LITERALLY FOUR MONTHS.
A wonderful friend brought me the sweetest house warming gift back in May.
Then, a couple months later, she went through her son’s clothing that no longer fit him. She made a huge delivery of adorable, quality clothes for Everett (and Leo, once he’s big enough…hand-me-downs are the gift that keeps on giving).
It was all so thoughtful of her, made me/us feel loved and cared for, and meant that Everett could remain clothed because he had nearly run out of things that were properly fitting him. 😄
This kindness clearly deserves written acknowledgment and gratitude. I just haven’t done it yet.
Until today, that is. The note has been written, sealed, and is in the mail! 🥳
I’m really glad that my friend will finally know just how much her kindness meant to me. I texted her right away with thanks but that’s just NOT the same as a beautiful card that she can hold in her hands and maybe place on her windowsill or bookshelf.
Luckily, I had the perfect card to inspire me as we go through the cards in the My Firefly Gratitude and Encouragement Kit.
I also painted some envelopes this week which I haven't done in ages. It is always such a fun creative treat for me. :)
This quote from Rumi seems especially perfect for a delayed thank you: “Your acts of kindness are iridescent wings of divine love, which linger and continue to uplift others long after your sharing.”
Leah said she’ll be using this card from her kit to write to a customer of ours who shows up for us again and again. He’s been such a champion of our creations and our mission.
Is there a thank you note that you’ve been mentally writing for ages but have yet to get on paper?
At least for me, this type of thing is a weight. My best, highest self truly values the amazing kindness of people in my life and I also value responding with a tangible note – yet sometimes my full life gets in the way of timely acknowledgments.
Let’s set ourselves free! Even if the kind gesture happened months or years ago, a lovely note is always right on time.
Grab your Iridescent Wings card from your My Firefly Kit – or another thank you card that feels inspiring to you.
Set a timer for 10 minutes and feel the endorphins that come from finally acknowledging the generosity in writing.
Then slip on your shoes (or roll in your wheelchair) and go pop it in the mailbox. Doesn’t your heart feel like it’s soaring a little bit? The magic of snail mail. 🤗
Who are you thanking today? Hearing about the generosity of others can break our cynicism and help us all look for the goodness that is abundant in so many humans...plus inspire us to keep that cycle going whenever we can. I’d love if you shared in the blog post comments today!
xox,
Snail (and Tiny)
P.S. We’ve currently got this particular “Iridescent Wings” card available in our Thank You Cards Pack of 8 as well as the My Firefly Kit. (Even if you’re behind on sending thank you notes, it is infinitely easier to write them when you have a good smattering to choose from!)
P.P.S. I know this year continues to be super challenging for many of us for myriad reasons.
We decided to curate an Autumn-edition of our “Look for the Light Mini Pack” – so you can write to 5 people who might need some extra light this fall. Amidst the volatility of the world and events, you might be the voice of hope that someone needs to keep their head up.

My husband is a contractor and I have had duct tape holding my bathroom together for quite some time. Walls need painting, the roof needs fixing. This “Shoemaker’s” family has very worn out shoes, which I am very grateful for regardless. 🙂
I loved hearing your story, I think living in the imperfect – is perfect. I’m sending a thank you card out this week to some friends who sent a beautiful gift after a dear family member passed away this year. I couldn’t love my card collection more.
